santosh writes "Youth Movement celebrates World Environment Day

In a first of its kind the Youth Movement in Delhi diocese this year celebrated World Environment Day and organized a symposium on the threat of Genetically Modified (GM) food on our lives.

The session held after the Holy Qurbana on June 7 was hosted in St Stephen's School by the Dilshad Garden unit of the movement in partnership with Greenpeace International.

The volunteers of the Greenpeace presented a film on the threats of GM foods on our lives and also conducted a open house session to debate the issue with the participants.

A film was screened on the issue of conservation of Ganga and other rivers in the country. The effects of global warming and conditions like that of the floods in Mumbai were discussed by the participants.

The session also included also included a short session by the Parish Vicar Fr Saji Abraham, who is also the director of the Sunday School movement in the diocese, on the daily do's and don'ts in our households. The parish discussed small ways like minimizing the use of polythene covers and traffic norms to conserve fuel etc in the session. The discussion concluded with a pledge to contribute towards the safety of our planet Earth in our own small ways as a community.

The winners of the collage making competition for families organized on the occasion on environment theme were felicitated on the occasion.

Dilshad Garden youth movement has plans to hold more such sessions in the future to establish the Orthodox Community as an environment friendly one. Greenpeace team appreciated the church for its awareness drive. The network called upon the Church and promised all support to work towards making the Indian Orthodox Church the first Green Church of the world.

Spiritual Artricles News Articles: Malankara Orthodox Syrian Christian Group Spiritual Words

What is the essence of Orthodoxy? It is the God-man Christ. Everything that is Orthodox has a divine-human character: knowledge, the senses, the will, the mind, morality, dogma, philosophy, and life. Divine humanity is the only category in which all the manifestations of Orthodoxy are received and fully operate. In all creation, God occupies the first place, man the second. God leads while man is led; God acts and man cooperates. God does not act transcendentally. He is not the abstract God of deism, but rather the God of the most immediate historic reality, the God of revelation, the God who became man and lived within the categories of our human existence while appearing everywhere as absolute holiness, goodness, wisdom, justice and truth."   Spiritual Artricles News Articles: In God we will have success! [Nehemiah 2:20]

Vinu writes "Here is a good story.. .which came from a friend of mine inUS....u can share with your friends.

During World War II, a US marine was separated from
his unit on a Pacific island. The fighting had been
intense, and in the smoke and the crossfire he had
lost touch with his comrades.

Alone in the jungle, he could hear enemy soldiers
coming in his direction. Scrambling for cover, he
found his way up a high ridge to several small caves
in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the
caves. Although safe for the moment, he realized that
once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the
ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he
would be killed.

As he waited, he prayed, Lord, if it be your will,
please protect me. Whatever your will though, I love
you and trust you. Amen.

After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy
begin to draw close. He thought, Well, I guess the
Lord is not going to help me out of this one. Then he
saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of
his cave.

As he watched, listening to the enemy searching for
him all the while, the spider layered strand after
strand of web across the opening of the cave.

He thought what I need is a brick wall and what the
Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a
sense of humor.

As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness
of his hideout and could see them searching one cave
after another. As they came to his, he got ready to
make his last stand. To his amazement, however, after
glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on.

Suddenly, he realized that with the spider web over
the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered
for quite a while. Lord, forgive me, prayed the young
man. I had forgotten that in you a spider's web is
stronger than a brick wall.

We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is
so easy to forget the victories that God would work in
our lives, sometimes in the most surprising ways. As
the great leader, Nehemiah, reminded the people of
Israel when they faced the task of rebuilding
Jerusalem, In God we will have success! [Nehemiah
2:20]

Remember: Whatever is happening in your life, with
God, a mere spiders web can become a brick wall of
protection. Believe He is with you always. Just speak
His name through Jesus His son, and you will see His
great power and love for you.

Have an awesome day, and know that someone who thinks
you're great has thought about you today

Yours sincerely,

In Gods mercy and his great love

Alexy Kuriakose ( Vinu)

Spiritual Artricles News Articles: Jesus the Feminist

puthooran writes "Taken from the website of the Jesus Institute: http://www.jesus-institute.org/life-of-jesus-modern/jesus-feminist.shtml

By one definition, a feminist is a person who is in favor of, and who promotes, the equality of women with men, a person who advocates and practices treating women primarily as human persons (as men are so treated) and willingly contravenes social customs in so acting. What is the model of Jesus' encounter with women? If we look at the biographies of Jesus, we will see that Jesus was a feminist.

The status of women in Palestine during the time of Jesus was very decidedly that of inferiors. The woman is "in all things inferior to the man," said first century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus. Jewish Rabbis in the first century were encouraged not to teach or even to speak with women. Jewish wisdom literature tells us that "he that talks much with womankind brings evil upon himself and neglects the study of the Law and at the last will inherit Gehenna [hell]." It was in this oppressive context that Jesus lived.

One of the first things noticed in the biographies about Jesus' attitude toward women is that he taught them both the meaning of the Scriptures and religious truths in general. When it is recalled that in Judaism it was considered improper, and even "obscene," to teach women the Scriptures, this action of Jesus was an extraordinary, deliberate decision to break with a custom invidious to women. Moreover, women became disciples and followers of Jesus. (Luke 8:1ff) The significance of this phenomenon of women following Jesus about, learning from and ministering to him, can be properly appreciated only when it is recalled that not only were women not to read or study the Scriptures, but in the more observant settings they were not even to leave their household, whether as a daughter, wife, or member of a harem.

Within this context of women being disciples and ministers, Jesus quite deliberately broke another custom disadvantageous to women. According to the recorded eyewitness accounts Jesus' first appearance after his resurrection to any of his followers was to a woman (or women), who was then commissioned by him to bear witness of the risen Jesus to his disciples. According to Judaic law, women were not allowed to bear legal witness. Clearly this was a dramatic linking of a very definite rejection of the second-class status of women with a central element of the life of Jesus, the resurrection.

Not only did Jesus break Rabbinic laws of his day by teaching and talking to women, but he went even further. He allowed women to touch him--and women who were considered "unclean" by the society at that. Jesus touched a dead woman, the daughter of a synagogue ruler, and brought her back to life. (Luke 8:40ff) He allowed a prostitute to touch and wash his feet while dining with a disapproving religious Pharisee. (Luke 7:36ff) And Jesus allowed a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years to touch his garment in order to be healed. (Matthew 9:20ff) As a woman with a flow of blood, she was considered constantly unclean, which not only made her incapable of participating in any cultic action and made her in some sense "displeasing to God," but also rendered anyone and anything she touched (or anyone who touched what she had touched!) similarly unclean.

On another occasion Jesus again deliberately violated the then common code concerning men's relationship to women. It is recorded in the story of the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob. (John 4:5ff) Normally a Jew would not address a Samaritan, as the woman pointed out: "Jews, in fact, do not associate with Samaritans." But also normally a man would not speak to a woman in public (doubly so in the case of a rabbi). However, Jesus startled the woman by initiating a conversation. The woman was aware that on both counts, her being a Samaritan and being a woman, Jesus' action was out of the ordinary for she replied: "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" Jesus went on to reveal himself in a straightforward fashion as the Messiah for the first time. Just as when Jesus revealed himself to Martha as "the resurrection," and to Mary as the "risen one" and bade her to bear witness to the apostles, Jesus here also revealed himself in one of his key roles, as Messiah, to a woman.

His unpopular attitude toward marriage presupposed a feminist view of women; they had rights and responsibilities equal to men. It was quite possible in Jewish law for men to have more than one wife, though the reverse was not possible. Divorce, of course, also was a simple matter, to be initiated only by the man. Jesus rejected both by insisting on monogamy and the elimination of divorce. (Mark 10:2ff, Matthew 19:3ff).

Jesus' attitude toward women is also reflected in the very language attributed to him in the gospels. First, Jesus often used women in his stories and sayings, something most unusual for his culture. Secondly, the images of women Jesus used were never negative, but rather always positive--in dramatic contrast to his predecessors and contemporaries. Thirdly, these positive images of women were often very exalted. Fourthly, Jesus often taught a point by telling two similar stories or using two images, one of which featured a man and one a woman. This balance, among other things, indicated that Jesus wanted it to be abundantly clear that his teaching, unlike that of other rabbis, was intended for both women and men--and he obviously wanted this to be clear to the men as well as the women, since he told these stories to all his disciples and at times even to crowds.

From this evidence it should be clear that Jesus vigorously promoted the dignity and equality of women in the midst of a very male-dominated society: Jesus was a feminist, and a very radical one.

Spiritual Artricles News Articles: The Profile of a Godly Mother

puthooran writes " from the Grace to You Today site of John MacArthur

http://www.gty.org/

I once came across an interesting article on motherhood by a man named W. L. Caldwell written back in 1928. Here’s what he said:

Well may we pause to pay honor to her who after Jesus Christ is God’s best gift to men, mother. It was she who shared her life with us when as yet our members were unformed, into the valley of the shadow of death she walked that we might have the light of life. In her arms was the garner of our food and the soft couch for our repose. There we nestled in the hour of pain; there was the playground of our infant glee.

Those same arms later became our refuge and stronghold. It was she who taught our baby feet to go and lifted us up over the rough places. Her blessed hands plied the needle by day and by night to make our clothes. She put the book under our arm and started us off for school. But best of all, she taught our baby lips to lisp the name of Jesus and told us first the wondrous story of a Savior’s love.

Caldwell went on to say, “The pride of America is its mothers. There are wicked mothers like Jezebel of old. There are unnatural mothers who sell their children into sin. There are sin cursed rum soaked and abandoned mothers to whom their motherhood is the exposure of their shame. I am glad to believe, however, that there are comparatively few in this class.”

Is that true? Are there merely a few unfaithful mothers? Maybe that was the case in 1928, but it’s sadly not so today. High rates of illegitimacy and divorce reveal the contemporary abandonment of marriage—motherhood’s foundation. Annual abortions number in the millions, which shows the heart of many mothers has grown cold. Millions of children whose mothers allow them to see the light of day cower in fear under angry abuse. And countless are the mothers who ignore, neglect, or abandon their children in pursuit of self-centered “fulfillment” —motherhood is an inconvenient interruption to their lifestyle.

For better or worse, mothers are the makers of men; they are the architects of the next generation. That’s why the goal of becoming a godly mother is the highest and most noble pursuit of womanhood. God has specially equipped women for that very purpose, and in Christ, women can experience profound satisfaction in that divinely ordained pursuit. They can be who God created them to be.

Ladies, please pay attention. There are so many who would capture your interests today, to tear you away from God’s high calling on your life. “Focus on your career,” “Buy more stuff,” “Pamper yourself” —you’ve heard it all, I’m sure. Don’t buy what they’re selling—it’s all a lie.

With that in mind, I want to encourage you this Mother’s Day to consider one biblical example of motherhood. It’s Hannah, the mother of the prophet Samuel, an emblem of the grace of womanhood. You can read all about her in 1 Samuel 1 and 2.

Hannah became a mother by faith. In the opening verses of 1 Samuel, she is introduced as a childless woman. But God granted her a precious gift and she became the mother of one of the greatest men who ever walked the earth. As you follow this account, you’ll see the profile of a godly mother.

Devoted to Her Husband

Contrary to popular opinion, the most important characteristic of a godly mother is her relationship, not with her children, but with her husband. What you communicate to your children through your marital relationship will stay with them for the rest of their lives. By watching you and your husband, they are learning the most fundamental lessons of life—love, self-sacrifice, integrity, virtue, sin, sympathy, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness. Whatever you teach them about those things, right or wrong, is planted deep within their hearts.

That emphasis on marriage was very evident between Elkanah and Hannah. They were dedicated to the faithful worship of God (1:3), and they were dedicated to loving one another (1:4-8). Their situation—being unable to have children together—was like an open wound. But it was an experience that drew out of Elkanah tender expressions of love for his wife.

At a particularly low point in Hannah’s discouragement, Elkanah comforted his wife with these words: “Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” (1:8). That may not seem like a tremendous comfort to you, but he was appealing to the satisfaction they enjoyed in their marriage. Notice the effect: Hannah was encouraged—she started to eat and drink again (1:9), and she went to the temple to seek the Lord (1:9-11).

That’s the kind of marriage to which a godly mother is devoted—dedication to loving God, dedication to loving one another. That’s the soil where godly mothers grow and flourish.

Devoted to Her God

Hannah struggled through acute pain and adversity. She was barren, she had to share her husband with another woman—one who could produce children, and she had to endure the pain of that woman’s cruelty (1:6-7). And though Hannah was tempted to despair (1:8), she received the encouragement of her husband, turned to the Lord, and poured out her heart to Him in humble devotion (1:9-18).

Like many women today, Hannah struggled with the pain of infertility. She wanted God’s best, to be a mother. In her sadness, Hannah didn’t complain to her husband—there was nothing he could do about it—and she didn’t fight back when Peninnah tormented her. Instead, Hannah trusted God through prayer.

That’s a beautiful characteristic. She understood that God was the source of children, that God alone could alter her sterility. Her distinctive virtue was her constant faith. First Samuel 1:12 says, “It came about as she continued praying before the Lord”. Her prayers were constant. She stayed there praying with a broken heart, pouring out tearful prayers. Hannah knew where to go with her problems.

Hannah was quite different from many today who long for children; she wasn’t seeking a child for her own fulfillment. Childless parents today spend millions on infertility treatments—medications, special diets, egg-harvesting, even in-vitro fertilization. They worry and fret and sin in their continued anxiety.

Not Hannah. Hannah was willing from the start to give the child back to God, for life (1:11). It wasn’t about her. It wasn’t about getting what she wanted. It was about self-sacrifice, giving herself to that little life to give him back to the Lord. After coming to that place in her heart, after expressing her desires to the Lord in prayer, she experienced the peace of humble devotion to God. She “went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad” (1:18).

Devoted to Her Home

According to His perfect will, God gave Hannah a son—Samuel.

And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the Lord.” (1:19-20)

Hannah named her son in remembrance of God’s goodness, and she devoted herself to her motherly responsibilities—she was fully committed to her home. The time came for one of the annual trips to Shiloh, and Elkanah came to Hannah to prepare her for the trip.

Then the man Elkanah went up with all his household to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and pay his vow. But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “I will not go up until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord and stay there forever.”

When God gave the child, Hannah dedicated herself to raising him. She would be devoted to that task for several years, knowing her time with him was short. That’s so different from what you see today, isn’t it? Women have babies, and a couple of months later they slam the baby in some day care center and take off for the job.

Not Hannah. She was totally committed to stay in the home until that little life was trained. She had important work to do—nursing, loving cherishing, instructing. Hannah understood how vital those early years are, when 90 percent of personality is formed. She prepared him in those formative years for a lifetime of service to God—such a high calling.

Don’t mistake her devotion to raising Samuel for the modern tendency to make the child the center of the universe. Hannah discharged her responsibility as a steward—one day she had to give Samuel back. It wasn’t about fulfilling her deepest needs through her child. It was about fulfilling her oath to God. It was about being faithful to her calling to be a godly mother.

For those of you who are mothers, think about Hannah this Mother’s Day. Be devoted to your husband; be devoted to your God; and be devoted to your home in the fear of the Lord. That’s your high calling and your greatest joy.

For those of you whose mothers are still living, recognize your mother this Mother’s Day for the things she did well. Look in love beyond any of her shortcomings and honor the one who introduced you to life.

Spiritual Artricles News Articles: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (Sunny Thomas)

puthooran writes "The Story of Moses in the First Person
By SUNNY THOMAS

You ask me which is the most memorable moment in my life? Those spellbinding moments of miracles that God performed through me before Pharaoh, or the awe-inspiring splitting of the Red Sea, or the fleeting pleasures of the palace which I renounced?

Those moments are nothing compared with the encounters I had with God, beginning with the Burning Bush. The first picture of God that comes to my mind is His majesty. What a majesty! His holiness is aglow around His face and person, that we call glory. You may ask, ``Have you seen God face to face?’’

No man can see His face and yet live. A tiny bulb gets burnt when 1000 mw electricity passes through it. Yet we can see His glory if God grants us that privilege. When God descended, accompanied by thunder and lightning, Mount Sinai shook and smoke billowed over. The 10 Commandments is the key to a healthy and happy living. It is the quintessence of a godly life as it reveals the character of God.

``Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people,’’ promised the Lord. To be the apple of God’s eye, you need to obey His commandments; and then no evil shall touch you, and you will remain the most blessed of people. The children of Israel were asked to sanctify themselves for two days and keep off the mountain while the Lord descended, which they obeyed.

Written by God Himself, the 10 Commandments proclaims the express will of God for His children and is a manual for holy living to belong to the family of God. By accepting it you come under God’s protection; and by rejecting it you reject God and come under His wrath. Many people who have not heard of the 10 Commandments keep it because it is written in the conscience of everyone, no matter what one’s religion.

``I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt…You shall have no other gods before Me’’. In the very first sentence, God reveals Himself; `I am that I am’, the only sovereign and uncreated Being who has life in himself. The existence of all other living beings depends on the will of this sovereign Being. God is the Author of life who created it, sustains it and takes it back at will; others can only procreate life.

Remember what Our Lord Jesus said, ``As the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself.’’ On another occasion the Lord said, ``..I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me but I lay it down of Myself. I have the power to lay it down and I have the power to take it again. In essence, only the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the triune God, has life in Himself. That’s why we call God the Father of spirits: all life proceeds from Him and goes back to Him.

Therefore, the First Commandment urges you to revere God and worship Him. To worship God is to esteem Him in your thought, word and deed. Once you understand who God is, your perspective of life changes. You should have a passion for God and keep the sanctum sanctorum (Holy of Holies) of your heart for Him. You should let Him control your entire life so that you emerge as a person of great accomplishment.

You little children may not have understood what Egypt stands for. But those of us who lived there for years know how corrupt are the moral fabrics of that culture. The seeds of idol worship, sexual immorality and hardness of heart that invited God’s judgement later in the desert were implanted in Egypt. Remember how God hardened the heart of Pharaoh, who refused to listen to God’s word? When you reject God’s word, your heart gets harder and harder. Those men who rebelled in the desert had Pharaoh as their role model. Children, choose men of God as your role model.

``You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a zealous God…’’ Anything that stands in between your God and you is your idol. When you hero-worship yourself, you could be an idol. When you love your parents, children or others more than God, they become your idols. When you defile your body in immorality, you become an idol worshipper; when greed or covetousness or jealousy controls you, you have already become an idol worshipper. Give first place to God in your life, and you will lead a happier and prosperous life. This indeed is the first principle of life.

``You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.’’
Your conversation must reflect your wisdom and intelligence and let blasphemy and vanity be far from it. Fools goad their conversation with ``by God’’ or ``upon God’’.
Habitual liars readily swear by God without knowing what is in store for them. Take the name of your God in worship and exhortations and not in the lighter moments of your life.

``Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’’ What is set apart for God is holy and keep your Sundays for worship, for studying the word of God and for doing good deeds. Many of you rob God by working on Sundays or studying on Sundays. The way you keep your Sabbath speaks of how much or how little you love the Lord your God. Know for a certainty that Sabbath violators are never blessed.

``Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.’’ Your parents are your visible God who brought you into this world and who provides for you, sometimes even making great sacrifices of which you know little. Honour your parents if you want prosperity and longevity. And provide for them in their old age so that they don’t suffer the indignities of life. Be ever grateful to them, for a grateful heart is a godly heart.

``You shall not murder.’’ Today’s murder is not through deadly weapons but through deadly words that mortally wound and maim. In the image of God are you created and when you hurt another life however insignificant it may seem, you are in effect hurting the Creator. Some people have a talent for it and with pride they nurture the art. Sadly, what they don’t realise is with each murder they are moving away from the realm of God into the realm of darkness.

``You shall not commit adultery.’’ You are defiling the very temple of God when you indulge in immorality. Be holy in every part of your body so that when you pray God answers you. Many people have fallen away from godliness because of this sin. Ask for God’s special grace and fast and pray to overcome the temptation of the flesh. Families and kingdoms and nations have been ruined because of this one sin; cities like Sodom and Gomorrah have been overthrown because of this sin. Sin is poison in a very attractive package; it deforms and disfigures personality and finally death overtakes, not just physical but spiritual, which is eternal separation from the living God. Alas!

``You shall not steal.’’ Volumes can be written on the modus operandi of stealing because it is so widespread and prevalent in every human transaction. From exploiting workers to shirking work in office, from borrowing and not returning to trapping legally to deprive of someone else’s property, stealing embraces all human activity. Unlike the tribal and agrarian society, the modern capitalistic society is so complex that everything it does, be it advertising, marketing, media or banking, there is an element of sophisticated stealing everywhere under the garb of commercialism. So try to live as honestly as possible and do not take away anything that does not rightly belong to you.

``You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.’’ Slandering and character assassination has become the favourite pastime of the high society. Remember, that’s exactly the preoccupation of Satan who accuses God’s people day and night. The most heinous act a man can come up with is to bear false witness against his brother to ruin him or send him to jail. He has no iota of truth in him and is the very child of his father, the devil, even if he may be an ecclesiastical office-bearer.

``You shall not covet.’’ Why do people covet except overrun by greed? Greed is a monster that swallows men and women of all ages. Greed is the antithesis of godliness and is the cause of all wars and quarrels the world over. How were empires built but by conquering kingdoms, and how were kingdoms built but by conquering small, small countries, and how were countries built but by conquering tribes and large families? Violence is the expression of greed and politics its manifestation. Those who covet are ever destined to be unhappy because covetousness knows no end. In fact, tears, pains and sorrows are their reward.

If you observe the First Commandment, you will observe the rest nine; but if you don’t observe the first you will violate all the 10. The secret of keeping all the 10 Commandments is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind; and then you will begin to love your neighbour as yourself. The first four Commandments could be summed up in one word: worship. And the next six Commandments could be summed up in another word: service. The epitome of the 10 Commandment is love of God and love of man.

Spiritual Artricles News Articles: WANT TO SEE JESUS By Sunny Thomas

puthooran writes "WANT TO SEE JESUS?
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God
(Matthew 5: 8)
By SUNNY THOMAS

Many Christians do not see God because their heart is hardened. When you resist the word of God, your heart gets hardened. And each time you resist the word, the harder and harder it emerges. Remember Pharaoh and his heart problem? He refused to listen to the word of God and hardened his heart. Some children of Israel took cue from him, instead of learning from his example, and made him their role model. They rebelled against God and their corpses were strewn in the desert.

Some Christians do not see God because they are scoffers. It is as though life is all about laughing at others; they laugh at priesthood, they laugh at sacraments, they laugh at tradition, they laugh at other denominations, they laugh at almost anything that is grist to the laughter mill. The Psalmist cautions us against this lot:

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners.
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful…

Scoffers have trespassed too far into the realm of darkness for redemption. In fact, they are sons of perdition.

Some Christians do not see God because they are the world’s worst hypocrites. On Sundays they are Peter and Paul but on the other six days they are Judas Iscariot; in the church they have the shine and sheen of Archangels Gabriel or Michael but in the workplace they are robbers and thieves and the devil incarnate.

Some Christians do not see God because truth and they are poles apart. Even by accident they do not speak a word of truth; they are congenital liars and the children of their father the devil, as Jesus told the Pharisees and the Scribes. Everything they do is crooked and everything they do is falsehood. And God has no use of them.

Some Christians do not see God because they have no eyes to see the famished, sickly, naked brother standing next to them. How can they see the invisible God when they cannot see the visible brother standing beside?

Faith is the first step to seeing God. How can God bless anyone who does not believe He exists? Or how can He deal with anyone who denies His existence through his
thoughts, words and deeds? He can deal with such a person only as a Judge. Faith is experiencing the presence of God not only in worship and prayer but also in work and leisure.

How does faith come? Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God (Rom 10:17) and of course by encounter with men of God. Obedience to the word of God is the key to seeing God; all those who have seen God are those who obey and treasure the word of God.

Answered prayer is the next step to seeing God. ``This is the confidence we have in approaching God that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us’’ (I John 5:14). The first epistle of St John is a commentary and reflection of Jesus’ Farewell Discourse dealt with by the Apostle in his gospel Chapter 13 to 17.

Jesus himself says in his Farewell Discourse, ``If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will and it will be given you. Herein is my Father glorified that you bear much fruit showing yourselves to be my disciples’’ (John 15:7-8). Jesus was revealing the very purpose of creation and the crown of creation, the man. Man is created to shine and shine and to reflect the glory of God. Just as God rules the heavenly realm, man is created to rule the earthly realm as His ambassador.

Man’s effectiveness and fruitfulness depends on God and his abiding in God. The Bible makes the principle of `abiding’ amply clear: the word of God dwelling in the heart of man. That’s why Paul tells his beloved Timothy, ``Be filled with the word of God’’. Anyone who is engaged in the Lord’s work has to be saturated with the word of God. And anyone who desires to lead a victorious Christian life has to do the same.

Answered prayer raises your confidence in the Lord. But do not forget answered prayers come out of your transformation. Slowly but surely, the word of God that dwells in your transforms you to the image of Our Lord and to the likeness of His Person so that you have the mind and the will and the character of Jesus. Then what you pray will be according to His will and your prayer will be answered.

Our Lord’s Prayer teaches that prayer is a relationship. It is a relationship between the Father and son or the Father and daughter. Only those who can call God their Father has the right to pray. Children seek their father out of love and reverence. Commonly, prayers are of two kinds: a beggarly prayer and the children’s prayer. A beggar only knows how to beg and he has no relationship. He is interested only in getting!

The Holy Communion is the next step to seeing God. It is touching the very person of God with faith and prayer. Faith moves mountains, prayer opens the door of heaven and Communion brings God into the heart and person of the believer.

I would like to end with a personal touch. There was a time in my life when I was partaking in the Holy Communion if not every week every other week. I had a friend who was a Kashmiri Pundit and whenever he had any problem he would come to me for prayers. Once I was praying with him holding his hand and the moment I ended the prayer he shouted: ``Sunny, I could see an effulgence of glory standing next to you. ’’ I was not surprised because I too could feel the presence of the Lord next to me.

The following is the testimony of Richard Wumbrand, the Romanian Pastor who was tortured by the communists for preaching Christ and who was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment and hard labour. During one of the torture sessions, the jailor demanded: ``Show me your Christ and I will accept Him.’’

Rev Wumbrand prayed for a minute and stood transfixed as though nailed to a cross. What happened the next moment is nothing short of a miracle. The jailor fell down and worshipped him because what he saw before him was the face of Jesus Christ! "

Sunday School News Articles: The story of Sunday School

Anonymous writes "Next Sunday we celebrate as Sunday School Day therefore I would like to share the story of sunday school : - Robert Reks the auther of Gluxter Journal started the sunday school in 18th Century. The initial aim was not religious, but it was a voluntary service of eduction to the slum children of England. On Sundays professional techers were giving general academic education to the poor children. By the 19th century not in England, but in Europe and America general education spread in a wide scale. As a result of this Sunday School turned to concentrate in religious study. It became a Sunday school not only for the slum children but also to all the children attending the church. This movement reached in India 100 years ago.
